  Abbreviation In the process of communication words & word-groups can be shortened. The causes of shortening can be linguistic & extra-linguistic. By extra-linguistic causes, changes in the life of people are meant. A word, which has more than one meaning, is called polysemantic.          Different meanings of polysemantic word may come together due to the proximity of notions, which they express.
